NEW CASTLE MAN CLAIMS $100,000 POWERBALL® PRIZE FROM APRIL 4 DRAWING

DOVER, DE - A 39-year-old retired man from New Castle, Del., claimed the April 4, $100,000 POWERBALL® prize this morning at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover.  The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was awarded $72,000, which represents his $100,000 prize minus $28,000 for federal tax.

The winner purchased his winning POWERBALL® ticket at Popular Liquors on New Castle Avenue in Wilmington on April 4.  The winning ticket, which consisted of numbers he selected himself, matched five of six winning numbers.

The man told Lottery Officials he found out he had won when he went back to Popular Liquors on Saturday (April 14) to purchase POWERBALL® tickets for that night's drawing.  "Popular Liquors had a sign in the window that said they had sold a $100,000 winning ticket for the April 4 drawing, the man explained.  The clerk and I were both shocked when we realized I was the missing $100,000 winner!"  The winner said he plans to pay some bills with his winnings.

The POWERBALL® jackpot for Wednesday, April 18, has an estimated annuity value of $10 million.  Tickets cost $1 and are available at all Delaware Lottery On-Line Retailers.

Since the start of the operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $969 million to the state's General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware.  The Lottery offers a variety of games, including POWERBALL®, the fastest-growing multimillion-dollar jackpot game, All Cash Lotto, Rolldown®, Play 3 and Play 4, and a variety of Instant Games.
