SEAFORD FATHER AND DAUGHTER CLAIM $100,000 POWERBALL® PRIZE

DOVER, DE -  A 70-year-old man and his daughter from Seaford, DE, claimed a June 9, 2001, $100,000 POWERBALL® prize late Wednesday afternoon (June 13) at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover. The winners, who wish to remain anonymous, were awarded $72,000, which represents their $100,000 prize minus $28,000 withheld for federal tax. The father and daughter chose to split their winnings, and each received $36,000.

They purchased their POWERBALL® ticket at Shore Stop #214 in Bridgeville. The winning Quick Pick ticket matched five of six winning numbers.

"We found out we won when we went back to the store to check our winning numbers," the father explained. "We've been playing for 20 years and have never won!" The father and daughter have separate plans for their portions of the prize money.

The winners told Lottery Officials they will continue playing Delaware Lottery games.   "We're hoping we hit the jackpot someday," the winners said.

The POWERBALL® jackpot for Saturday, June 16, 2001, has an estimated annuity value of $19 million. Tickets for POWERBALL cost $1 and are available at all Delaware Lottery On-Line Retailers.

Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $969 million to the state's General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware.  The Lottery offers a variety of games: POWERBALL®, the fastest-growing multimillion-dollar jackpot game, All Cash Lotto, Rolldown®, Play 3 and Play 4, and a variety of Instant Games.
