WILMINGTON 7-ELEVEN SELLS $100,000 WINNING POWERBALL® TICKET

DOVER, DE - A 49-year-old woman from Wilmington claimed one of two $100,000 POWERBALL® prizes sold in Delaware for the May 15, 2002 drawing this morning at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was awarded $73,000, which represents her $100,000 prize minus $28,000 for federal tax.

The winner, a payroll accountant at a local bank, purchased her winning POWERBALL® ticket at the 7-Eleven on Milltown Road in Wilmington this past Monday (May 13). Her Quick Pick ticket matched five of six winning numbers.

"I found out I won when my husband called me at work this morning," the woman explained. "He checked the winning numbers on delottery.com and called me right away. I immediately left work and headed straight for the Lottery Office." Currently, the winner does not have any plans for her winnings.

A second $100,000 POWERBALL® prize remains unclaimed for the May 15 drawing. The winning ticket was sold at Genuardi's Family Market in People's Plaza in Glasgow. The winning numbers for the drawing were 30, 33, 36, 37 and 49 for the white numbers and 35 for the red POWERBALL® number.

The POWERBALL® jackpot for Saturday, May 18, 2002 has an estimated annuity value of $10 million. Tickets for POWERBALL cost $1 and are available at more than 400 Delaware Lottery Retailers throughout the state.

Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $1.3 billion to the state's General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware.
