COWORKERS WHITE AND DUNN CLAIM $100,000 POWERBALL® PRIZE
DOVER, DE - William and Sallie White
from Claymont and Patrick and Cynthia Dunn from Philadelphia claimed
a $100,000 POWERBALL® prize from the August 10 drawing at the
Delaware Lottery Office in Dover this morning. The winners split
their $100,000 prize equally. Each couple received $36,500, which
represents their $50,000 prize minus $13,500 for federal tax.
William White and Patrick Dunn, mechanics for Worldwide Flight Services
at the Philadelphia International Airport and musicians, purchased
their winning POWERBALL® ticket at Yetters Liquors on Philadelphia
Pike in Claymont the day of the drawing. Their Quick Pick ticket
matched five of six winning numbers.
"I found out we won when I checked the winning numbers at Yetters
Liquors yesterday," Dunn explained. "I was in complete
shock. In fact, I almost fainted. We've been playing for years,
but we've never won a large cash prize."
Although, the winners indicated they do not have definite plans
for their prize money, Sallie White would like to put her share
of the prize money toward a new car. When asked if they will continue
to play Delaware Lottery Games, the winners responded, "Absolutely."
The POWERBALL® jackpot for Wednesday, August 14, 2002 has an
estimated annuity value of $33 million. Tickets for POWERBALL®
cost $1 and are available at more than 400 Delaware Lottery Retailers
throughout the state.
Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has
contributed more
than $1.4 billion to the state's General Fund to help finance needed
