MIDDLETOWN MAN CLAIMS $1,000,060 LOTTO PRIZE
DOVER, DE -A 72-year-old man from Middletown
claimed the $1,000,060 LOTTO jackpot prize from the August 16 drawing
yesterday afternoon (August 26) at the Delaware Lottery Office in
Dover. The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was awarded $773,800,
which represents his $1,000,060 prize minus $226,260 for federal
tax.
His winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased the day of the drawing
from Parkers Thriftway on North Broad Street in Middletown. The
winner found out he won when he went to the Retailer last Friday
(August 23) to check his ticket. "I purchase a LOTTO and POWERBALL®
ticket each Friday, and I have the Retailer check any of the tickets
I purchased the week before," he explained. "I've never
won before, so when the Retailer told me what I had won I was really
surprised."
He told Lottery Officials he doesn't have any plans for his prize
money yet, but he does plan to continue playing Delaware Lottery
Games.
The LOTTO jackpot for Wednesday, August 28, 2002 has a jackpot worth
$315,000. LOTTO tickets cost $1 and are available at more than 400
Delaware Lottery Retailers throughout the state.
Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has
contributed more
than $1.4 billion to the state's General Fund to help finance needed
state services that benefit
everyone in Delaware. The Lottery offers a variety of games: POWERBALL®,
