SMYRNA COUPLE CLAIMS $100,000 POWERBALL® PRIZE

DOVER, DE -- Forty-nine-year-old Michael Lamon and his wife, 45-year-old Cheryl Lamon, of Smyrna, claimed a $100,000 POWERBALL® prize from the Saturday, November 9 drawing this morning at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover. Michael, a corrections officer, and Cheryl, a stay-at-home mom, were awarded $73,000, which represents their $100,000 prize minus $27,000 for federal tax.

They purchased their winning Quick Pick ticket last Friday (November 8) at the Acme in Smyrna. "We learned we won when we called the Player Information Line on Sunday and we rechecked the winning numbers in the newspaper yesterday," Michael explained. "Surprised doesn't even begin to explain how blown away we were by our big win. We play LOTTO and POWERBALL® regularly, but we've never won a prize this significant."

The Lamons currently do not have any plans for their prize money, but said it would definitely add a little more joy to their holiday. They plan to continue playing Delaware Lottery Games; in fact, they purchased their ticket for the next POWERBALL® drawing yesterday.

The POWERBALL® jackpot for Wednesday, November 13, 2002, has an estimated annuity value of $29 million. Tickets for POWERBALL cost $1 and are available at all Delaware Lottery On-Line Retailers.

Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $1.4 billion to the state's General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware. The Lottery offers a variety of games: POWERBALL®, LOTTO, PLAY 3, PLAY 4, and assorted Instant Games.
