$100,000 POWERBALL PRIZE CLAIMED; MIRIAM BARNSHAW CLAIMS $10,000 INSTANT GAME PRIZE

DOVER, DE --Miriam Barnshaw and her sister claimed a $10,000 INSTANT CASH Instant Game prize and a Maryland woman claimed a $100,000 POWERBALL® prize from the July 24 POWERBALL drawing yesterday at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover.

Barnshaw and her sister, both from Centerville, MD, purchased their winning INSTANT CASH ticket at the Rehoboth Cigarette Outlet in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Barnshaw was awarded a check for $7,500, which represents the $10,000 minus $2,500 for federal taxes. She plans to share the prize with her sister. An excited Miriam said, "My sister and I always split our winnings 50/50."

A Maryland woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, claimed a $100,000 POWERBALL prize from the July 24 POWERBALL drawing. Her winning ticket matched all five white numbers except the red POWERBALL number to win $100,000. She received a check for $75,000, which represents the $100,000 prize minus $25,000 for federal taxes. The 59-year-old woman purchased her winning POWERBALL ticket-a Quick Pick-at the Acme Supermarket in Smyrna, DE.

"I buy the Sunday News Journal just to check my winning numbers," she explained. "I was very excited to see my picks printed, because I mostly play scratch-off games just for fun."

The POWERBALL jackpot for Wednesday, July 28, 2004 has an estimated annuity value of $44 million. Tickets for POWERBALL cost $1 and are available at more than 450 Delaware Lottery Retailers.
