NEWSPAPER COVERAGE OF UNCLAIMED $100,000 POWERBALL® TICKET LEADS TO LUCKY DAY FOR SEAFORD COUPLE

DOVER, DE -- Because of a newspaper article in their local paper regarding an unclaimed $100,000 POWERBALL® prize, a couple from Seaford, Delaware will have a greener Christmas.

The anonymous pair had their winning ticket for the November 20th drawing validated on Monday by Delaware Lottery officials. The winning ticket was sold at the Shore Stop on Stein Highway in Seaford, Delaware. Last week, an 80-year old Wilmington man and a 62-year old resident of Mount Laurel, New Jersey, each claimed $100,000 POWERBALL® prizes awarded in Delaware within the last few weeks.

The winning ticket matched all five white numbers except the red POWERBALL® number. The $100,000 prize represents $75,000 to the winners after federal taxes.

"We play POWERBALL® at least twice a week and didn't realize there was an unclaimed prize from the retailer where we buy our tickets until we saw the article in the newspaper," said the winning couple. "We got our tickets and went to the Lottery website to look up the numbers picked on November 20th. It was then we realized that we had the winning ticket."

The couple told Lottery officials that they are regular players of LOTTO and POWERBALL® -letting Quick Pick select their numbers-and had previously won a total of seven dollars. The couple said they had no special plans for their winnings, but with a 22-year old son in college, "it won't be difficult to spend the money."

Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than
$1.8 billion to the state's General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware. The Lottery offers a variety of games: POWERBALL®, LOTTO, PLAY 3, PLAY 4, and assorted Instant Games.
