TWO
$100,000 POWERBALL® PRIZES
FOR MARCH 30, 2005 DRAWING CLAIMED
Dover, DE -- Two of three winning
POWERBALL® tickets from the Wednesday March 30, 2005 drawing
have been claimed at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover.
There is still one unclaimed $100,000 prize remaining from
the same drawing.
Late last week a woman from Georgetown claimed her $100,000
POWERBALL® prize. Early this morning, a 25-year-old woman
from Dover claimed another $100,000 POWERBALL prize from the
same drawing. Each winner will receive a check for $75,000
which represents their $100,000 prize minus $28,000 withheld
for federal taxes. Each winner has opted to remain anonymous.
The Georgetown woman, an accountant married with a family,
purchased a single ticket the day of the drawing at a Georgetown
area Pep-Up and used a combination of numbers from family
birthdays and anniversaries to select the numbers. "They
are the same numbers I usually play every time I buy a POWERBALL
ticket," she said.
The Dover woman, who is also an accountant, purchased her
ticket the day of the drawing at Shore Stop on Rt. 8 in Dover.
She selected her own numbers but told Lottery Officials, "the
numbers had no real significant meaning." When asked
how she learned she had won, she said. "My mom checked
the numbers and called me. It was pretty tough to believe
her at first because she called me on April Fools Day."
"We often hear players or potential players say that
they think nobody in Delaware matches five numbers for the
$100,000 prize in our POWERBALL game." said Brian Peters,
Deputy Director Sales & Marketing, Delaware Lottery. "And
yet we had three such winning tickets in the very same drawing
as well as 217, $100,000 winners in the state since the game
began in 1992."
Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery
has contributed more than
$1.8 billion to the state's General Fund to help finance needed
state services that benefit everyone in Delaware. The Lottery
offers a variety of games: POWERBALL®, MULTI-WIN LOTTO,
PLAY 3, PLAY 4, and assorted Instant Games.
