TWO $10,000 WINNERS CLAIM POWERBALL® PRIZES FROM SEPTEMBER 14, 2005 DRAWING

Dover, DE --Two winners have claimed their $10,000 prizes from the Wednesday September 14, 2005 POWERBALL® drawing. These winners are the first to claim prizes since changes to the POWERBALL® became effective on August 28, 2005. Carlton Marvel of Odenton, Md. and a New Castle man, who wishes to remain anonymous, had their winning tickets validated the day after the drawing at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover. The winners were each awarded a check for $7,500 which represents the $10,000 prize minus federal taxes.

Marvel, a married, 62 year-old mortgage loan officer, purchased his winning ticket using Quick Pick from HMS Host Toll-Road Inc., a service center located near Newark, Del. on I-95. He told Lottery Officials that he is a regular Lottery player and has won small amounts in the past. He learned he was a winner when he read the winning numbers in the newspaper and double-checked on the Lottery web site to be sure he was indeed a winner. When Lottery Officials asked his plans for the winnings, Marvel happily replied that he plans to pay off bills.

The other winner, a 41 year-old truck driver, purchased his ticket using Quick Pick from Cumberland Farms on New Castle Avenue. He told Lottery Officials that he plays the Lottery occasionally and, like Marvel, has won small amounts in the past. He learned he was a winner when he checked the Lottery website at www.delottery.com. When Lottery Officials asked his plans for the winnings, the winner replied that he plans pay off bills and use it to start a new business.

"These two winners are a great example of the excitement that comes from a winning experience, which was one of the goals intended by increasing POWERBALL® prize amounts," said Brian Peters, deputy director of sales and marketing for the Delaware Lottery.

The 29 lotteries that operate POWERBALL® voted this past April to change the nation's first big, multi-state jackpot game to meet player demand for larger and faster growing jackpots. These changes took effect August 28, 2005, offering larger starting jackpots and increased cash awards in other prize levels.
