$200,000 POWERBALL® PRIZE CLAIMED A WEEK AFTER
SEPTEMBER 24TH DRAWING BUT MISSED A CHANCE OF A MILLION

Dover, DE -- A 47-year-old man has claimed a $200,000 prize from the Saturday September 24, 2005 POWERBALL® drawing, but missed his chance at a $1 million prize by not selecting the Power Play option. After waiting over a week to claim his prize, the regular Lottery player had his winning ticket validated yesterday afternoon at the Delaware Lottery Office in Dover. In addition to the Delaware Lottery's first $200,000 prize winner, the State has had seven POWERBALL® Jackpot winners and 219 $100,000 winners that have claimed prizes for a combined total of over $409.9 million.

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, was awarded a check for $150,000 which represents his $200,000 prize minus federal taxes. The winning ticket had five number selections that correctly matched the five white balls drawn to win a $200,000 prize. Unfortunately, he did not opt to purchase the Power Play option for an additional dollar per ticket. Doing so would have multiplied his winnings by five for the September 24th drawing, which allowed one man in Colorado to win $1 million dollars from the same drawing by purchasing the Power Play multiplier option for his ticket.

The winner purchased four tickets, with numbers he selected at random, from Naamans Beverage Mart, Inc. in Claymont. He told Lottery Officials he works in the telecommunications field and is married with a family. He learned he was a winner when his wife checked their tickets while visiting a Lottery Retailer at Carpenter Plaza. The winner revealed he plans to pay bills and invest his winnings. Though he has won small amounts in the past, he assured Lottery Officials that he will absolutely continue to play after this POWERBALL® win.

Since the start of operations in 1975, the Delaware Lottery has contributed more than $2.1 billion to the state's General Fund to help finance needed state services that benefit everyone in Delaware. The Lottery offers a variety of games: POWERBALL®, MULTI-WIN LOTTO, PLAY 3, PLAY 4, and assorted Instant Games.
