Wednesday's POWERBALL® Jackpot Drawing Climbs To $485 Million The Delaware Lottery Encourages Players To Please Play Responsibly
(Dover, Del.)— POWERBALL® has reached an estimated annuity jackpot of $485 million - making it the third-largest in POWERBALL history, according to Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) officials. The largest in POWERBALL® history was $590.5 million, won by a Florida woman in 2013. The next drawing will take place Wednesday, February 11, at 10:59 p.m. and players can purchase tickets up until 9:45 p.m.
“The closer this jackpot gets to history-making status, the greater the visibility, excitement and desire of people to play,” said Vernon Kirk, Director, Delaware Lottery. “With the number of ticket sales skyrocketing, the Delaware Lottery reminds everyone of the importance of not getting swept up in the momentum of this jackpot, but to instead play what they can afford. Joining a pool with a few friends or colleagues offers a good option for playing responsibly as well.”
The current jackpot run has been climbing for eleven weeks, since it was last won in the state of Washington on November 29, 2014. With no jackpot winner from the drawing that took place Saturday, February 7, 2015, the jackpot was raised from $380 million to the current $485 million. If the $485 million jackpot is won this Wednesday, the winner could opt for a cash option payout of $327.7 million.
The winning numbers from Saturday's non-winning jackpot drawing were 5, 10, 21, 34, 58, 33 and the POWERBALL number was 5. Although the jackpot remains, more than two million players won some form of prize after Saturday's drawing, ranging from $4 to $2 million. In addition, a $1 million winning ticket from last Wednesday's drawing that was sold at the Sunoco A-Plus on Dupont Highway in Newcastle, DE remains unclaimed. Also unclaimed from Saturday's drawing are two $10,000 winning tickets sold at the Food Lion, Milton, DE and Pockets Discount Liquors, New Castle, DE. The Delaware Lottery reminds players of the importance of checking their numbers carefully for other opportunities to win and that there are eight prize levels in addition to the POWERBALL jackpot.
“The POWERBALL game was developed to address s desire players expressed for a chance to win a major jackpot, but at the same time win a smaller prize while the jackpot builds,” said Kirk. “So it's important to us that these players don't miss out on the many opportunities of the game.”
The Delaware Lottery joins other lotteries across the country in support of responsible play by emphasizing that the odds of winning a POWERBALL jackpot prize are 1-in-175 million.
“A jackpot of this size has quite an allure, so much so that people who rarely or never play, start to consider doing so; it's part of the human spirit to dream of the possibilities. This is why we cannot emphasize enough for players to spend only what they can afford without compromising necessities and comfort of themselves and their loved ones,” said Kirk. “We always players to remember the most important goals of the lottery: to give people a means for fun, and to generate dollars for vital programs in our community.”
POWERBALL tickets sell for $2 per game and with the Power Play® option POWERBALL costs $3 per game.
