A Short Seven-Mile Ride Ends In a One Million Dollar POWERBALL® Win For One Pennsylvania Couple
(Dover, Del.)— A Pennsylvania couple is considering the possibility of early retirement after winning one million dollars in Saturday's POWERBALL® drawing. The winning ticket was purchased Friday, March 20, 2015 at the Sunoco in Claymont, DE, approximately seven miles outside the winners' residence in Garnet Valley, PA. The couple discovered their win the evening of the drawing, March 21. “My husband purchased the two tickets, a MEGA MILLIONS® and a POWERBALL®, using the Quick Pick option,” said the wife, who works as a nurse. “He checked the numbers online four times after Saturday's drawing before he mentioned to me we were looking at a win. I verified what he saw, and neither of us could believe it!” The Delaware Lottery reminds POWERBALL® players of the importance of checking their tickets beyond looking for a jackpot win, emphasizing that a one-million-dollar winning ticket sold in New Castle remains unclaimed from the February 4, 2015 drawing. “Many times, people are so focused on winning a multi-million dollar POWERBALL® jackpot, they forget about the other substantial wins to be had other than the jackpot,” said Vernon Kirk, Director, Delaware Lottery. “Our one-million-dollar winners from Garnet Valley exemplify the importance of checking numbers beyond what may have won the jackpot… here's a couple that was diligent in looking at their numbers and now has quite a reward for doing so!” The one-million-dollar winning ticket for the February 4 POWERBALL® drawing was sold at the Sunoco A-Plus located at 1201 N. Dupont Highway, New Castle, DE. The winning numbers are: 24, 36, 51, 52, 56; with the Power Ball 22. Parents of two adult children, the Garnet Valley couple who won the $1 million in the March 21 POWERBALL® drawing plays the lottery once a week, and has been doing so fairly regularly for decades. This $1 million POWERBALL® win far exceeds their previously highest win of $400. The wife claimed their prize at Lottery Headquarters in Dover on March 23, 2015. She told Lottery Officials that they plan to use the $1,000,000 to help pay off some bills and possibly use the remainder toward an early retirement.
