Million Dollar-Winning Ticket Finally Claimed From February 4, 2015 POWERBALL® Drawing(DOVER, DE) — A 39-year-old Pennsylvania man and his girlfriend spent their downtime during the blizzard checking some old Lottery tickets he had folded up in his wallet. What they discovered was a winning ticket for $1,000,000 (less 25% federal tax) that had gone unclaimed from a drawing close to a year ago. The man, who wished to remain anonymous, bought a POWERBALL® Quick Pick ticket from the Sunoco A-Plus located at 1201. N. DuPont Highway in New Castle, Delaware, on February 1, 2015, for the February 4 drawing. The winning numbers were: 24, 36, 51, 52, and 56, and the Powerball was 22. He correctly matched five white ball numbers, not the Powerball. “I live outside Philadelphia and couldn’t scan the Delaware-purchased ticket up there. Because I was too lazy to go online and check the winning numbers, the ticket remained unchecked in my wallet until last Friday night.” Lottery officials remind players that tickets expire after one year from the drawing. The winner happened to be visiting a friend in Delaware last February when he bought his ticket. “I normally buy my Lottery tickets close to home,” said the winner, who doesn’t recall ever purchasing a ticket in Delaware. “My first and only Delaware Lottery purchase was definitely the luckiest in my 20 years of playing the Lottery!” He told Lottery officials he plans to buy some real estate with his winnings. He redeemed his winning ticket on January 25 at Delaware Lottery headquarters in Dover.
