New Castle Native Wins $50,000 Early Birthday Present(DOVER, DE) — Franklin Norris will undoubtedly always remember his 31st birthday as the time he scored a large early birthday present from the Delaware Lottery. That’s because the 30-year-old delivery driver from New Castle, Delaware, scratched his way to a top prize of $50,000 playing the Delaware Lottery’s Instant Game, 50X. Norris, who plans to celebrate his birthday tomorrow, purchased the winning ticket at Appleby Shell in New Castle, Delaware. “I only purchased one ticket, and it only took one ticket to win!” said Norris. “Now I can finally buy a car that won’t break down on me.” After scanning the ticket in the store multiple times to confirm he was a winner, Norris told Lottery officials he let out a big “whoa” when the scanner lit up with the jackpot amount. “I won $1,000 six months ago, and I thought that was exciting, but it definitely doesn’t compare to this prize amount,” he said. The father of two is planning to save as much of the winnings as possible, but he’s also looking to purchase a car with the prize money. “If you don’t play the game, you can’t win,” Norris added. The winner claimed the $50,000 prize at Delaware Lottery headquarters in Dover on Tuesday, July 26.
